One of the greatest days in the history of the Telugu Association of North America (TANA) came on July 5th at the Washington Convention Center when former U.S. president Bill Clinton made a lengthy speech to the people of Andhra Pradesh. The event was sponsored by media investor Mr. Devi Prasad Katragadda from Bakersfield, California and Mr. Krishna Prasad Katragadda from Detroit, with the aim to raise awareness about the increasing potential of the Indian community and to encourage bright young Indian Americans to become actively involved in the political process that has already seen a number of Indian Americans forge a successful career in.

President Clinton has had a long history with the Indian people and has always been aware of the importance of celebrating India's heritage. Speaking at length about the immense progress that India has made and its future potential, he laid equal emphasis on the vast contributions of Indian Americans in terms of the "insourcing" that Indian people have done for America. He was referring to the skills, talent, and entrepreneurial skills and abilities that have been contributed by Indians, particularly those of the people from Andhra Pradesh.

In the last few years Indian Americans involved in politics have made significant advances in raising awareness about global issues like global warming, globalization, energy and equality and perception of global communities. President Clinton recognized these efforts and speaking on the subject of globalization stated that while the benefits of globalization are self-evident there are three major problems related to globalization that persist, namely. insecurity, unsustainability and inequality. According to President Clinton, one of the most important challenges faced by American Indians was that of, "identity" His view was that people and communities should recognize our common humanity rather than creating distinctions among communal groups. Indian Americans have been firm supporters of President Clinton since his time in office. And both he and his wife Hillary Clinton continue to contribute to the global community through the Clinton Foundation. Whether it is through globalization and trade, tsunami relief efforts, HIV/AIDS programs or any other cause, the Clinton Foundations has aided Indians extensively and in every possible way. As a token of gratitude and support for their many efforts, Mr. Devi Prasad Katragadda and Mr. Krishna Prasad Katragadda have donated $1 million to the Clinton Global Initiatives Fund.
